Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación
The history of Órgiva is reflected in the “Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación”, an ancient Muslim Mosque that, after the Catholic Monarchs' reconquista, was converted into a church.
Inside, it hosts a valuable artistic heritage from the late 16th and 17th centuries, including notable works such as the sculpture of “Cristo de la Expiración”, the "Virgen del Carmen”, and a statue of “Cristo de la Expiración”, attributed to the school of Juan Martínez Montañés, which deserves special attention.
Barrio Alto
Get lost in the Barrio Alto neighborhood and discover a corner with a special charm, where the traditional architecture of the Alpujarra remains untouched. Its whitewashed houses, balconies full of flowers, and narrow cobbled streets will lead you to the Ermita de San Sebastián, where you can enjoy one of the best views of the town.
Plaza de las Culturas
Did you know that more than 70 different nationalities live together in Órgiva? Plaza de las Culturas is a space that pays tribute to the cultural diversity of our town. José Vera has created a sculpture of three hands holding the world, accompanied by the phrase from Publius Terentius: "I am a man, nothing human is foreign to me".
Castillejo ruins
In front of the town, at an altitude of 900 meters, the remains of the Castillejo de Órgiva stand, an ancient Arab fortress that still holds the mystery of its past.
Located 3 km south of the town, on the left bank of the Guadalfeo river, this site is found in a natural setting known as the Barranco del Castillejo, a place full of history and scenic beauty.
